The Kiparsky family are members of the Baltic-German Livonian branch of the Kiparski family.
The Kiparski/Kiparsky surname is related to Kiparen, which is the name of a village in what was the County of Ortelsburg (Kreis Ortelsburg) in East Prussia (Ostpreußen). The area is now part of northeastern Poland. Kiparen was also spelled Kiparren. Kiparen has been also known as Kipary since at least the 17th century, and the German and Polish versions of the village's name have always been interchangeable.
