Discover Free MyHeritage Record Matches and the New Match Center

We’re thrilled to announce some new improvements to MyHeritage Record Matches on Geni! Finding historical records for your ancestors is crucial for building a high-quality family tree, and now, we’ve made it easier than ever to discover and confirm records that are completely free to view with no MyHeritage data subscription required.

While a MyHeritage data subscription gives you full access to billions of historical records, there are many incredibly valuable collections that are available for free. Previously, it wasn’t always obvious on Geni when a Record Match came from one of these free collections. By bringing these free records front and center, we hope to make it easier for everyone to confirm them to Geni profiles and help improve the overall quality of the World Family Tree.

The Merge Center is Now the Match Center

To go along with these enhancements, we’ve updated the name of the Merge Center to the Match Center. Because the Merge Center has always been the central hub for all your matches (Tree Matches, Record Matches, and Smart Matches^™), we felt the new name makes it explicitly clear exactly what you will find there.

The Match Center will now also feature a new Free Record Match category, allowing you to view a list of all profiles with free Record Matches in one convenient place.

Easily Spot Free Record Matches

You will now notice new notifications on Geni alerting you whenever a Record Match is found in a free MyHeritage collection, such as BillionGraves or the Social Security Death Index. 

For example, when a free Record Match is available for a profile, a new “Free Record Match Found” notification will be displayed right on their profile page. 

Clicking on this link will forward you to MyHeritage to view the list of all available Record Matches for that person. If a record is free to view, you’ll see a green FREE icon right next to the collection name.

How to View and Confirm Free Record Matches

Even if you do not have a MyHeritage data subscription, you can easily view and confirm these free Record Matches to your Geni profiles. All you need to do is log in or create a free account on MyHeritage.

Once you are logged into MyHeritage and click “Confirm,” the record will instantly appear in the Geni profile’s confirmed matches module.

And a new source citation will automatically be created to back up the facts on the profile.

Confirming these free historical records not only enriches your own family branch with valuable source citations, but also elevates the accuracy and quality of the entire World Family Tree for researchers everywhere.
