This week we feature the New and Modern Masters project. This project is comprised of the great painters from the mid 19th century to the present. (For great painters from the mid 13th to mid 19th century, check out the Old Masters project). If you’re interested, you may want to join the project’s collaborators and add more notable modern painters to Geni!

Here’s a look at a few of the profiles included:

Andy Warhol – He was an American painter and film maker. Warhol is considered one of the most significant figures in leading the visual art movement called pop art.

Pablo Picasso – Picasso is best known as the leading figure of Cubism, which revolutionized European painting and sculpture in the 20th century.

Frida Kahlo – She as a Mexican painter who was best known for her self-portraits. She married fellow Mexican artist Diego Rivera in 1929.

Vincent van Gogh – He is one of the most renowned artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although his work was not recognized during his lifetime, today van Gogh is considered one of history’s greatest painters and an important figure in laying down the foundations of the modern art movement.

Paul Cezanne – He was a French artist and Post-impressionist painter. Like van Gogh, Cezanne’s work laid the foundations for the modern art movement, bridging the gap between 19th century Impressionism and early 20th century’s Cubism.
