Profile of the Day: Anne Frank

Anne Frank

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”

– Anne Frank

Today we remember Anne Frank, who was born on this day 89 years ago.

Annelies Marie Frank was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany to Otto and Edith Frank. The family lived in Frankfurt until Anne was five. In 1933, the family fled to Amsterdam after the Nazi party came to power.

On her 13th birthday, Ann was gifted her now famous diary. Shortly thereafter, she and her family were forced into hiding in a small annex in the building where Anne’s father worked. For two years, the family lived in secret with four others until they were discovered and taken to a Nazi concentration camp. While in hiding, she recorded all of her thoughts, desires, and experiences in her diary.

Sadly, her father would be the only member of the family to survive. In 1947, he published Anne’s diary and since then, the book has been translated into over 70 languages. To this day, her words continue to inspire and touch readers all around the world.
