Crosby was born Harry Lillis Crosby, Jr. on May 3, 1903 in Tacoma, Washington in a house built by his father. The fourth of seven children, Crosby acquired the nickname “Bing” at a young age from a comic strip called “The Bingville Bugle.”

After finding success on radio, Crosby made the leap to film to become one of the most bankable actors of the time. In 1942, he released the single, “White Christmas,” which would become the biggest hit song of his career. To this day, the song remains one of the best-selling singles of all time. One of the most popular film stars of the era, Crosby starred in a string of hit musical and comedy films, including seven films with comedic icon Bob Hope. In 1945, he won his first Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the film Going My Way.

Crosby died on October 14, 1977 at the age of 74.
