Are you an art connoisseur? On November 14, 1840, French impressionist painter Claude Monet was born in Paris, France. Known as the founder of the French Impressionist movement, its name derived from Monet’s painting Impression, Sunrise, Monet’s artistic style sought to capture the movement of light and its changing qualities. His work often illustrated ordinary subject matters and nature, including his famous series of paintings depicting haystacks and water lilies.

Although Monet struggled with bouts of severe depression, illness and poverty during his lifetime, today he is considered one of the most famous and influential painters in history.
