Edgar Degas

On July 19, 1834, painter and sculptor Edgar Degas was born in Paris, France. Although he is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, Degas rejected the term, and preferred to be called a realist. Regardless, his highly celebrated works helped shape the fine art landscape for years to come and greatly influenced modern artists like Pablo Picasso.
