Harper Lee

Do you remember reading To Kill a Mocking Bird? On April 28, 1926, author Harper Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama. A classic of modern American literature, Lee’s novel was an immediate success with both critics and the public. She would go on to win the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for her one and only novel.

Did you know Harper Lee was childhood friends with author Truman Capote? She helped serve as Capote’s research assistant for an article he was writing for The New Yorker. The article would eventually evolve into Capote’s best-selling book In Cold Blood.
