Marlon Brando

Today marks what would have been actor Marlon Brando’s 94th birthday. Born on April 3, 1924, Brando is often considered one of the most famous and influential actors of the 20th century.

Brando was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Marlon Brando, Sr., a pesticide and chemical feed manufacturer, and Dorothy Pennebaker, an actress and theater administrator. After he was expelled from military school, Brando worked as a ditch-digger. At the age of 18, Brando moved to New York to study acting with acting coach Stella Adler. Considered a “method actor,” Brando was one of the first to bring a natural approach to acting on film.

One of Brando’s earliest roles was Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee William’s A Streetcar Named Desire. After bringing the character to life on both the stage and screen, Brando became known as one of the top stars in the industry. His performance in the film adaptation of the play earned him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and it is often regarded as one of Brando’s best performances. Over the course of his long career, he continued to mesmerize audiences with his captivating performances on screen, including The Godfather and On the Waterfront. What’s your favorite film?
