Profile of the Day: Robert Redford

Today we remember Robert Redford on what would have been his 90th birthday.

Charles Robert Redford, Jr. was born on August 18, 1936 in Santa Monica, California. He was the only child born to Martha W. Hart and Charles Robert Redford, Sr., a milkman-turned-accountant.

After starting out with small roles on television, Redford became a major star after co-starring with Paul Newman in the box office hit Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. In 1973, he joined forces again with Newman in The Sting. In that same year, Redford also starred in The Way We Were  opposite Barbra Streisand. The role would earn him his first Academy Award nomination. Redford has also found success behind the scenes as a director and won his first Oscar for Best Director for the 1980’s film Ordinary People.

Redford died on September 16, 2025 at the age of 89.
