Rosa Parks

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama to a white passenger. The incident resulted in her arrest and sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Her act of defiance became an important symbol of the U.S. Civil Rights movement and made Parks an international icon of resistance to racial segregation.
