After visiting various amusement parks with his daughters, Disney was inspired to build his own theme park where adults and children could enjoy rides and attractions together. The construction of Disneyland began on July 16, 1954 and would cost $17 million to complete. One year later on July 17, 1955, the park opened to much fanfare. Over 28,000 people attended the opening day event, including invited guests and the media, which aired the opening day celebration on television.

Although the park did not officially open to the public until the following day, Disneyland celebrates July 17 as its official birthday. Since opening its doors, Disneyland has welcomed over 650 million guests from all over the world.

My family went to Disneyland in the mid ’60′s back when they used coupon books. I loved the submarine ride. We took our kids to the park when they were about 5 & 7. They loved driving the cars. A few years ago the family got together & rented a home nearby and then we spenr several days at Disneyland and California Adventure. My husband loved Cars’ Land. My grandson, daughter & I rode Space Mountain over and over. Wonderful memories! <3
