Willie Nelson

Happy 81st birthday to Willie Nelson! Born during the Great Depression and raised by his grandparents, Willie developed a love for music at an early age. At the age of 6, his grandfather bought him his first guitar and by 7, he had written his first song. Throughout his childhood, Willie earned money by performing at local dance halls and taverns. In 1950, he joined the United States Air Force.

Willie gained fame during the 1970s as one of the main figures of “outlaw country.” His sound revolutionized country music, and made him one of the most recognizable faces in the industry. Over the course of his career, he’s written over 2,500 songs and has won multiple awards, including several Grammys.
