Recapping the Magic of RootsTech 2026

Posted March 13, 2026 by Amanda | No Comment

We’re back from Salt Lake City, Utah, where we had an incredible time at RootsTech 2026. As the world’s largest genealogy conference, RootsTech always has a unique electricity in the air, and this year was no exception.

The 2026 conference theme, “Together,” felt especially poignant. It perfectly mirrors Geni’s mission to connect everyone to a shared family tree of the world, fueled by a truly collaborative, global community of researchers.

The highlight of our week was the official announcement of the Geni Pro Workspace. This new, dedicated area provides a private environment for you to organize your research. Whether you are capturing quick notes, managing to-dos, or tracking private projects, the Geni Pro Workspace allows you to do it all without ever leaving Geni.

A Unified Experience at the Booth

This year, MyHeritage debuted a completely redesigned booth, expertly crafted to showcase their full suite of products and services. As part of this new vision, the Geni booth was integrated into the larger space alongside our colleagues at Legacy Family Tree Webinars.

The result was a vibrant hub of activity that truly represented the MyHeritage family. Our section of the booth was buzzing throughout the conference as attendees stopped by for hands-on assistance.

Curator Benjamin Schoenbrun was on-site to provide expert guidance, sitting down with visitors to help navigate their family histories and solve genealogical puzzles.

Geni Pro Workspace Presentation

Throughout the conference, MyHeritage held a series of mini-sessions at the booth. Geni’s General Manager, Mike Stangel, delivered a presentation on the Geni Pro Workspace. He walked the audience through the practical benefits of the new feature, demonstrating how it serves as a private “command center” for genealogists. By centralizing notes, to-dos, and private projects, the Geni Pro Workspace empowers users to stay organized and efficient as they expand their branches of the family tree.

Prizes and the “Must-Have” Notebooks

MyHeritage hosted daily raffles with a wide array of prizes, including subscriptions across all MyHeritage platforms.

We were delighted to see two lucky raffle winners receive free 1-year Geni Pro subscriptions, while another Geni user walked away with a Geni Pro subscription as an official RootsTech door prize.

Of course, our signature Geni notebooks were back. These have become a staple of the conference experience. Many regular attendees made a point to stop by the booth just to secure a notebook for their session notes.

Curator Dinner

No genealogy conference is complete without dinner with our volunteer curators. This year we were joined by Benjamin Schoenbrun and Jarrett Ross, making for an evening of great food and even better conversation.

Thank you to everyone who visited us at RootsTech! It was wonderful to hear your stories and witness your discoveries firsthand. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
