This has been made possible through collaborative research of millions of Geni users. Although information on public profiles is accessible to everyone, the ability to edit them may be limited depending on your permissions. All users can edit the basic information of any public profile they are connected to, but to get full edit permissions on a profile, you will need to send a collaboration request to the profile manager(s).<\/p>\n<p>When you send and accept collaboration requests to other users, you&#8217;ll find that\u00a0your ability\u00a0to contribute information and help make corrections\u00a0in\u00a0the World Family Tree will\u00a0expand, letting you get more work done than before.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does Collaboration do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once a collaboration request is accepted, both parties will be able to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>View and edit the Public profiles each manages<\/li>\n<li>Merge duplicate profiles together<\/li>\n<li>Correct relationships in the tree<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How do I send a Collaboration request<\/strong><strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you find a public profile that you would like to contribute to, you can send the manager(s) a request to collaborate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/request-to-collaborate.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-101300\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/request-to-collaborate.png\" alt=\"Geni Tips: Send Collaboration Requests\" width=\"309\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/request-to-collaborate.png 332w, https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/request-to-collaborate-300x290.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 309px) 100vw, 309px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First,\u00a0click on the profile manager&#8217;s name to\u00a0go to\u00a0their profile page. In your\u00a0collaborator list, simply click &#8216;Auto-accept Requests&#8217; to automatically accept requested merges from that person.\u00a0This will automatically accept merge requests from a collaborator if your collaborator doesn&#8217;t have permission to complete a merge, but you do.\u00a0To turn off auto-accept, you can go back to your list of collaborators and click &#8216;Manually Review Requests.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/merge_center.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-101315 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/merge_center.png\" alt=\"Geni Tips: Send Collaboration Requests\" width=\"600\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/merge_center.png 600w, https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/merge_center-300x82.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To help you work more efficiently In your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/list\/matches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merge Center<\/a>, you can\u00a0choose to view only profiles managed by your collaborators or profiles managed by a specific collaborator.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/remove-collaborator.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-101310 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/remove-collaborator.png\" alt=\"Geni Tips: Send Collaboration Requests\" width=\"322\" height=\"328\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/remove-collaborator.png 322w, https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/remove-collaborator-294x300.png 294w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you decide that you no longer want to collaborate with a person, simply go back to their profile page, click &#8216;Actions&#8217; and select &#8216;Remove From Collaborators.&#8217; You can also remove a collaborator from your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/list\/collaborators\/?focus_id\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">list of collaborators<\/a>.\u00a0Just click &#8216;Stop Collaborating&#8217; next to their name.<\/p>\n<p>Some things to keep in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaboration is mutual. When someone accepts your request to collaborate, they will then also have the\u00a0ability to edit the Public profiles you manage.<\/li>\n<li>Your collaborators do not gain any additional permissions on the Private profiles you manage or on your own profile.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The more users collaborate, the easier it is for everyone to\u00a0work together to expand and improve the World Family Tree.\u00a0How many\u00a0collaborators do you have?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0World Family Tree on Geni currently has millions of people connected.
