Today we remember legendary journalist Cokie Roberts<\/a>, who\u00a0has passed away at the age of 75.<\/p>\n

She was born Mary Martha Corinne Morrison Claiborne Boggs on December 27, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received the nickname “Cokie” from her brother, who could not pronounce her given name, “Corinne,” as a child. Roberts was born into a political family. Her father, Hale Boggs<\/a>, served as a member of the U.S. House of\u00a0Representatives and was a member of the Warren Commission, which investigated the assassination of President John F. Kennedy<\/a>. In 1972,\u00a0his plane disappeared while flying over Alaska. Neither\u00a0the wreckage of the plane or the\u00a0remains of the pilot and passengers were ever found. Her mother, Lindy Boggs<\/a>, would\u00a0serve in her husband’s seat\u00a0after\u00a0his death and\u00a0remain in office until 1991.<\/p>\n

Roberts first began her career in radio as a foreign correspondent for CBS and later became one of the first female reporters at NPR. A pioneer for women in journalism, Roberts career spanned over 40 years.\u00a0In 2008, the Library of Congress named her a “Living Legend.” In addition to her career\u00a0as an award-winning journalist, Roberts was also a bestselling author.<\/p>\n
