His mother came from a prominent family in Bermuda, where Douglas&#8217;s maternal grandfather, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/people\/Thomas-Dill\/6000000006843188979\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas Melville Dill<\/a>, served as Attorney General of Bermuda and as a member of the Parliament of Bermuda.<\/p>\n<p>As the son of actors, it was natural for Douglas to pursue a career in entertainment. He first gained fame on television with a role in the TV series\u00a0<em>The Streets of San Francisco<\/em>.\u00a0In 1975, he found success as a producer of\u00a0the film\u00a0<em>One Flew Over the Cuckoo&#8217;s Nest<\/em>,\u00a0which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and earned\u00a0Douglas his first Oscar. He would go on to star in\u00a0several critically acclaimed films and box office hits throughout his long career, including\u00a0<em>Romancing the Stone<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Wall Street<\/em>, and <i>Ant-Man<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Douglas has\u00a0also made a return to television. Just this past weekend,\u00a0he made an appearance at the\u00a071st Emmy Awards, where he was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the Netflix comedy,\u00a0<em>The Kominsky Method.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Fun fact: Douglas shares his birthday with his wife, actress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/people\/Catherine-Zeta-Jones\/6000000007370643476\" target=\"_blank\">Catherine Zeta-Jones<\/a>.
