This week’s featured project highlights Nobel Prize Winners<\/a> on Geni<\/a>. Since 1901, the Nobel Prize has been awarded annually for achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace. In his will, Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel<\/a> requested that his vast fortune be used to create a series of prizes for those who’s achievements provide the greatest benefit to mankind. As of 2010, there has been a total of 813 individuals who have been awarded the Nobel Prize. \"\"Winston Churchill<\/a> – In 1953, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature for his numerous published works.<\/p>\n

\"\"Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/a> – In 1964, King received the Nobel Prize in Peace for his work to end racial segregation and discrimination through nonviolent means. He became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.<\/p>\n

\"\"Elie Wiesel<\/a> – Author Elie Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. Calling him a “messenger to mankind,” Wiesel delivered a powerful message “of peace, atonement and human dignity” to humanity.<\/p>\n

\"\"Andrew Huxley<\/a> – In 1963, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.<\/p>\n

\"\"Nelson Mandela<\/a> – In 1993, Mandela was jointly awarded with F. W. de Klerk<\/a> the Nobel Peace Prize for their work in ending the apartheid in South Africa.<\/p>\n
