This means that it is harder to<br \/>\nuse or flaunt Geni as embedded in another website or to sell it to other people who don&#8217;t get to see how it looks until they agree to<br \/>\nbecome members or I add them to my tree along with their email addresses.<\/p>\n<p>It should be okay to show a read-only version of the tree on a<br \/>\npublic profile page that can be linked to, and to show it only if I<br \/>\nselect to have it made public.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We think that this is a great suggestion and are close to making this a reality. Currently you can share your Geni tree by printing a copy or exporting it as a GEDCOM file. Soon you will be able to share a limited view of your tree with others. We&#8217;d like to get your feedback on this feature before we release it.<\/p>\n<p>There are two ways you will be able to share your tree:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Embed the tree into a webpage such as a your blog or your profile on a social network such<br \/>\nas Facebook.<\/li>\n<li>Send someone a link to your own private URL which displays:\n<ul>\n<li>Your shared tree (see below).<\/li>\n<li>Your profile photo and name<\/li>\n<li>Send Message and Add to Friends buttons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Here is what a shared tree will look like (you will have the same zoom and pan controls as on Geni):<\/p>\n<p><a onclick=\"window.open(this.href, '_blank', 'width=409,height=311,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0'); return false\" href=\"http:\/\/geni.typepad.com\/.shared\/image.html?\/photos\/uncategorized\/2007\/12\/07\/picture_7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Picture_7\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.geni.com\/images\/2007\/12\/07\/picture_7.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Picture_7\" width=\"360\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are the options to customize your shared tree:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Tree type<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pedigree view (direct ancestors only)<\/li>\n<li>Immediate family<\/li>\n<li>Immediate family <strong>and <\/strong>pedigree view<\/li>\n<li>Extended tree (first cousins)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Display type<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Standard<\/li>\n<li>Vertical<\/li>\n<li>Photos Only<\/li>\n<li>Names Only<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Size<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Small (300&#215;250)<\/li>\n<li>Medium (400&#215;300)<\/li>\n<li>Large (600&#215;400)<\/li>\n<li>Tall (600&#215;800)<\/li>\n<li>Custom<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Name display<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First name and last initial (Jane S.)<\/li>\n<li>First name (Jane)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Options<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hide children under 18<\/li>\n<li>Hide profile photos<\/li>\n<li>Mark deceased<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here are the <strong>privacy<\/strong> rules that will apply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You choose where to display your shared tree.<\/li>\n<li>Your shared tree cannot be edited by anyone.<\/li>\n<li>Last names and profile information are not shown.<\/li>\n<li>Other branches of your tree are not accessible.<\/li>\n<li>Only publicly viewable profile photos are shown.<\/li>\n<li>You can choose to hide minors.<\/li>\n<li>You can deactivate your shared tree at any time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We think that this is a great way for you to share your family tree while respecting your family&#8217;s privacy.
