{"id":5711,"date":"2007-04-25T22:00:30","date_gmt":"2007-04-25T22:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/geni.com\/blog\/?p=5711"},"modified":"2011-07-19T17:20:35","modified_gmt":"2011-07-20T00:20:35","slug":"new_features_pr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/new_features_pr-5711.html","title":{"rendered":"New Features &#8211; Printing and More!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are pleased to announce that we have released some exciting new<br \/>\nfeatures tonight.\u00a0 We really think you will enjoy this release, which<br \/>\nfocuses on sharing photos, creating a paper version of your family<br \/>\ntree, and more.\u00a0 (For the details of our new photo features read <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.geni.com\/2007\/04\/new_features_ph.html\">this blog post<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px 5px 5px 0px; float: left;\" title=\"Print_icon\" src=\"http:\/\/geni.typepad.com\/photos\/uncategorized\/2007\/04\/25\/print_icon.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Print_icon\" \/><br \/>\nPrinting<\/strong> &#8211; One of our most requested features is the ability<br \/>\nto print your Geni family tree.\u00a0 Now you can.\u00a0 There is a<br \/>\nnew printer icon on the bottom right of your tree next to the help<br \/>\nicons.\u00a0 Select this to bring up our handy print options window,<br \/>\nselect the options you want, and click &#8216;PRINT&#8217;!\u00a0 Options include a zoom<br \/>\nslider, the ability to show\/hide photos, print in black and white, and fit to one page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And More<\/strong> &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Better performance for large trees<\/em> &#8211; we have made changes that greatly increase the performance when loading and navigating large trees.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re viewing a tree with more than 200 nodes you should notice a drastic reduction in the time it takes for your tree to draw.<\/li>\n<li><em>GEDCOM improvements<\/em> &#8211; we have made some adjustments to our GEDCOM export feature to clean up the GEDCOM file we create.<\/li>\n<li><em>Intelligent &#8216;Living&#8217; default<\/em> &#8211; now when you add a new node<br \/>\nto your tree that has four generations or more below it, the &#8216;Living&#8217;<br \/>\ncheckbox will default to off.\u00a0 This should save you time when entering<br \/>\nhistorical information because you no longer need to manually<br \/>\nuncheck this box for every entry.<\/li>\n<li><em>Safety<\/em> &#8211; We all know that the safety of children is a top<br \/>\npriority for families.\u00a0 We continue to develop important safety<br \/>\nfeatures to address these concerns.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll find a dedicated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geni.com\/safety\">safety page<\/a> on Geni with Safety Tips for Parents and a link to contact Geni with any safety concerns you may have.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thanks for all of your input, which continues to directly influence the next set of features that we&#8217;re working on right now.\u00a0 Have fun, and, as always, please let us know what you think in The Geni Forum thread <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.geni.com\/topic.php?id=353\">discussing these new features<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We are pleased to announce that we have released some exciting new features tonight.\u00a0 We really think you will enjoy this release, which focuses on sharing photos, creating a paper version of your family tree, and more.\u00a0 (For the details of our new photo features read this blog post).
