Beloved Muppet creator Jim Henson<\/a> was born on this day in 1936. Today we remember him on what would have been his 84th birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henson was born on September 24, 1936 in Greenville, Mississippi to Paul Ransom Henson and Betty Brown. He had a close relationship with his maternal grandmother, who was an avid painter, quilter, and needleworker. She encouraged Henson’s artistic passions and creativity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Henson rose to stardom after showcasing his Muppet creations\u00a0on\u00a0the popular 1970’s children’s show,\u00a0Sesame Street<\/em>. During his time on the show, he helped create many of the show’s iconic characters including Big Bird, Cookie Monster, and Oscar the Grouch. In 1976, Henson launched\u00a0The Muppet Show<\/em> and introduced the world to Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and many more. The hit show would spin off several feature films and television specials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
