Geni first launched in January 2007 with one goal in mind &#8211; to create a single family tree of the entire world. Today, Geni&#8217;s World Family Tree has grown to over 118 million profiles with new trees added and connected everyday. To celebrate the exciting milestone, we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/geni-turns-10-celebrate-with-a-chance-to-win-a-pro-subscription-396229.html\" target=\"_blank\">gave away a free 1-year subscription to Geni Pro<\/a>. We asked the community to\u00a0answer the question, &#8220;What first sparked your interest in genealogy?&#8221; and had tons of entries! DNA matches will now display shared DNA matches between you and your match. And it&#8217;s always a pleasure to get to spend time with our amazing volunteers curators and users in person.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time we made our way to Springfield, Massachusetts for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/genealogy-conferences-nergc-2017-recap-397386.html\" target=\"_blank\">New England Regional Genealogical Consortium genealogy conference<\/a>. The conference gook place right in the hometown of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/people\/Dr-Seuss\/5529202663300088565\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Seuss<\/a>! And we can&#8217;t forget our time spent in at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/highlights-from-ngs-2017-397506.html\" target=\"_blank\">NGS<\/a> in Raleigh, North Carolina and at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/highlights-from-jamboree-2017-397789.html\" target=\"_blank\">Jamboree<\/a>\u00a0right in our own backyard in Burbank, California. One of our favorite highlights of any genealogy conference is when we can help connect users to the World Family Tree right at the booth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/harry_markle2.png\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-99226\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/harry_markle2-600x375.png\" alt=\"harry_markle2\" width=\"520\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/harry_markle2-600x375.png 600w, https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/harry_markle2-300x187.png 300w, https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/harry_markle2.png 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of making connections to the World Family Tree, we\u00a0had lots of fun uncovering surprising connections between celebrities and historical figures. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/highlights-from-jamboree-2017-397789.html\" target=\"_blank\">Oscar night in 2017<\/a> was full of family connections. The big royal news of the year was the announcement of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/people\/Prince-Harry-of-Wales\/6000000003075017807\" target=\"_blank\">Prince Harry&#8217;s<\/a> engagement\u00a0to\u00a0American actress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/people\/Meghan-Markle\/6000000049003958965\" target=\"_blank\">Meghan Markle<\/a>. The happy couple will marry on May 19, 2018. Thanks to Geni&#8217;s World Family Tree, we were able to find that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/prince-harry-and-meghan-markle-are-related-399222.html\" target=\"_blank\">Prince Harry and Meghan are also related<\/a>! They are 12th cousins once removed in the World Family Tree. And that&#8217;s not all. It turns out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/meghan-markles-roots-connect-to-some-surprising-relatives-399366.html\" target=\"_blank\">Meghan has a few more surprising relatives<\/a>, including Mark Hamill, Susan B. Anthony, Charles Darwin, Beyonc\u00e9, and more!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image003.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-96702\" src=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image003-600x524.jpg\" alt=\"image003\" width=\"401\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image003-600x524.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image003-300x262.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.geni.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/image003.jpg 759w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 401px) 100vw, 401px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was also wonderful to hear some amazing stories from our users about some of their fascinating discoveries on Geni. Jennifer Payen wrote about her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.geni.com\/people\/Meghan-Markle\/6000000049003958965\" target=\"_blank\">goal to unravel the mystery of her paternal grandfather<\/a> and how Geni was instrumental in solving this family mystery.
