http://www.military.ie/info-centre/military-archives
Irish military records
Before starting out on your research try and find as much information about your family member before contacting the relative archives. It will make your job explaining a lot easier and archivist job of finding any records a lot quicker.

Although the following may seem obvious and some of the information you may not know. Any time spent here will pay dividends in the end of your research.

*Christian Names and Surname
*Date of Birth
*Address or even County at time of enlistment.
*Army Service Number (This is the Key to all searches)
*Unit’s Served (3rd Battalion, 4th Motor Squadron)
*Corps served in. (Engineers, Cavalry, Military Police, Infantry, Air Corps)
*Overseas Service (UN Missions - Congo, Lebanon, Cyprus)

Very expensive last time I looked, fee each time you look at a record, even if it's not the one you want e.g. looking for a Tom Ryan in Tipperary. Recently Ancestry.com seem to now have most of the records available there.

Kenneth Kwame Welsh, (C) this list might be too long to put them on the Irish portal home page, there is a link to this though on the page
There is still a lot more to come, think we can keep them here

http://www.irelandxo.com/home
The Ireland Reaching Out (Ireland XO) project is based on a simple idea; instead of waiting for people of Irish descent to trace their roots, we go the other way. Working through voluntary effort at a townland, village and parish level here in Ireland, we identify who left, and trace them and their descendants worldwide, proactively engaging with them and inviting them to become part of an extended “virtual” community with their place of origin
