As far as I can see there is no place called Vardal, Oppland on Google Maps.

Michael Buye - Click "edit details" for the location field and enter whatever you want without the Google Map suggestions you get when using the simple field.

That is the major problem with Google Map and genealogy, - it does not support historical places.

In addition to names of places I would like to have a possibility to specify exact geographical positions by spotting them on the map.

You can.... using the API, because there is are longitude and latitude fields in a location record.

Is there an easy way to use the API or do you have to make your own apps?

Nah.... using the API is for developing your own apps and you don't jump that train unless you are very interested.

The World Family App for iPhone seem to support GeoLocation for Geni profiles, but that part seem to be very buggy and not yet useful.

It looks like the geocode is based on the address in this app. It is not possible to input a standalone geocode as far as I can see.

Agree, the World Family App is full of bugs :(

Sorry, I did remember incorrectly: It is Geni's own iPhone app some of us got a betatest-version of where you can view the coordinates. It is however much more buggy.

Interesting. Is it possible to input the coordinates manually or are they generated from the address information. Possible for other people to take a look at the Geni app for Iphone?

Currently they are generated from the address information using Google Map.

Example from the Api showing what is stored on your own profile:

I have not tested if you can update it as well using the API, but it looks like that when reading the documentation.

The Geni app for iPhone seem to be a dead project at the moment.
