Joseph Henry Westerfield (1827-1891), born in NY, is my great-grandfather. In 1859 he became a partner in Schieffelin Company, a supplier to druggists and an importer of fine spirits and luxury items. (He became fairly rich.) After 1860, he and his family show up in the US Censuses for NY. Before that, I'm drawing a blank. Who were his parents and ancestors? I suspect they were early Dutch settlers in New Netherlands, and that the name may have been -- not so long ago -- Westerfelt or Westerveld. Any ideas?
