Your photos of the 1936 trip are fantastic
I didn't know Zalman went to South Africa.
What was his job? How long did he stay there?
How is it that you grandparents lived in France?

Hi Alain,
Not all the photos are from the same 1936 trip ;-)
The photos we found in Fanny's documents (incl. photos of her trip and photos of Leibe's trip are likely anterior to this 1936 trip).
What we know from family tradition is that Zalman traveled to South Africa and decided to settle there, start a business, bring his family etc. His wife Chaya opposed this plan, and he finally traveled back to Nowogrudek, where he ended up being murdered (by an antisemite? a thief?) in 1919.
My grandfather Israel + siblings (probably Fanny and Joseph) were orphans and brought to France by uncle Leibe, who had stores in Paris, Reims and LeHavre. My grand-father was eventually put in charge of the Reims furniture store, which he finally bought from uncle Leibe...
Regine came later to France, together with the Chaya.
