If I have a chance I'll try some "historic" Olympians - perhaps from the 1896 games. The further back in time the easier the tree building for me.

I dont know who changed it but Francina Elsje (Fanny) Koen and Fanny Blankers-Koen are the same. Now she is mentioned twice on the project. But she is known also here in Holland as : Fanny Blankers-Koen.
So it's better she is on the list as Fanny Blankers-Koen.
On her profile she is Francina Elsje Koen, shown as: Fanny Blankers-Koen.
But the most important is she is on this project as Fanny Blankers-Koen :-)
Can you change it back? It was right the first time...:-)

On the Famous Olympians list of athletes, James Cleveland "Jesse" Owens and Jesse Owens appear to me to be the same person. Did you want him listed twice.
I am worried that I might have trouble getting him attached to the big tree due to the fact that he is the grandson of a slave.....but I will try.

Linda advice on that is to go sideways - spouses, siblings, their parents, etc.

6/9/2012 at 11:38 AM

That is what I have been trying to do....no luck so far.

And the advantage is, even if we cannot connect (yet), we've made a nice leafy branch for someone someday to graft to a trunk. We should call ourselves "tree doctors!"

6/9/2012 at 12:03 PM

True. LOL!
I'm still trying. Found an article with the names of Jesse's in-laws as stated by Minnie. It matches what I found on a family tree. I takes me back further on her tree. I hope to find something there. Crossing my fingers.

So I'm pretty pleased with the Carl Lewis branch

Kenneth Kwame Welsh, (C) wrote me that he can take on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Joyner-Kersee branch later this week.

I see June Barnes has been making trees! So well done, June.

We really need a gymnastics fan to get going. :)

Has anyone tried to do Nadia Comăneci. I don't know if I can get much on her, but I found the name of her parents and son.....

6/13/2012 at 8:40 PM

We need her badly on Geni!

6/13/2012 at 8:45 PM

:) I have started her. I didn't realize her husband was an American Gymnast. Might have a chance at attaching then to the tree....

Hi Linda - George had started work on her - but hadn't created a profile yet - but I am quite sure he will not mind - you will see on the list that she is tagged as a short list favourite. Hard to get very far on the profiles from this part of the world - I worked on Waldemar Cierpinski with little success!
I see Linda that you were once a gymnast? ;-) - glad I am not the only one that morphs! LOL

6/14/2012 at 7:26 PM

Sorry George! I didn't see that you had her! Private User, funny isn't it! I didn't notice it last night!
I found Bart Connor parents names......finally. I wonder if George has gotten further back. I'm looking.......
