O aarde Sharon. This is also one of those. I should say it should be IZAK and NIEWOUDT but the others might alsob e correct. Back to the bad spelling of our poor ancestors.
Izak Niewoudt is closer to the best known spelling in South Africa.

If you consider the spelling of his name(s) in his own life time, 'Isaac' would be a good option but it is better if you give them all.

Consider the following:

- at his own baptism (NL-SAA-24742463)
1688 - Isack

- when he joins the VOC (NL-NaHa-1.04.02 7-5673-186)
1715 - Isaac Nieuhout

- when his children are baptized (http://www.eggsa.org/sarecords/index.php/church-registers/cape-town...)
1718 - Isaac Niewout
1720 - Isaac Niewout
1724 - Isaac Nieuhout
1725 - Isaac Nuhout
1727 - Isaak Nieuwout
1730 - Isaac Niewout
1732 - Isak Nieuwout

Lol Corney - Add them to his About me and to his 'nickname' (aka) list for us, please

I'm not managing any profiles. One of the managers will have to do that.

Okay, Corney I've made the changes on his profile, and put a note to this Discussion. I think your reasons 'carry the day' so I changed to Isaac. I left the surname as is, but added his VOC spelling & his spelling at his childrens' baptisms into the 'nicknames' so they will feature on searches.

If you want to be added as a manager, just use 'request management' and I'll add you.

Subsequent request by user
- I've changed his Data Field Name to his baptism name Isack;
and his Display Name to the Isaac variation that is used on later documentaion.

I'm going for
Niewout as most likely Birth Surname in Data Field Name;
Nieuwout as most likely Death Surname in Data Field Usage; and
Nieuwoudt typically regularised Modern Display Name.

Scream if you disagree :-)
