I have been told that Amelia Crause was John Bailie's (1820's settler, not John Bailie junior) mother - not wife and she was an illegitimate daughter of King George the IV . Has anyone any information on this? I am going to look into it, but thought I would open a discussion in case someone had some information to either support this claim or dismiss it.

On re looking at it my source confirms that she was the wife - not mother.
''Amelia Crause seems to have been born in Kent in 1790 or 1792 and died in 1864

One source has her father as William Crause – but the family tradition is that her REAL father was George IV

She married John Bailie (1788-1852) and he was the leader of a party of 1820 settlers

They had at least five children, one of whom was John Amelius Bailie (1816-1883) who was the missionary who married Elizabeth Lucas (1824-1918)

Their daughter Amelia Jane Bailie (1844-1914) married Charles Murray (1833-1904).''
