This fantasy, created out of thin air in 2013, has no basis in fact. It does not represent information handed down over generations, nor is it the product of careful historical research. Instead, it is a collection of unsubstantiated statements.

There is no reason to think that Sarah Maple, the widow of Benjamin Maple Jr (1696-1777), lived in Decatur, New York around the beginning of the 19th century. In fact, it is doubtful that any Sarah Maple lived there. The name "Sarah Maple" mentioned in the "History of Otsego, NY" appears to come from an incorrect transcription of old church records. A Sarah Kaple is known to have lived among the Decatur church members, and K is sometimes mistaken as an M in old records. It was probably Sarah Kaple who was a founding member of the church.
