I see it has been quite some time since this thread was added to. I wanted to add my contributions to what I believe is the field of credible research of the yDNA of the House of Normandy.
I believe I have been able to counter a number of researchers who have published over the last few centuries about a specific male Smith line that many claim has origins in the House of Normandy.
It is a very complicated story, one that still warrants further examination, and I welcome scrutiny and skepticism.
I can autosomally link a cousin Smith population of mine, in North America, to a Colonial Virginia era Smith population that has a very credible connection, on paper, to the Smiths of Blackmore, Essex in England.
These Smiths are recorded by the early heralds as being descended from a Carrington line, and researchers, both credible and otherwise, trace this Carrington line's origins back to a Marquis of Carentan in Normandy, France. According to their documentation, this man was an agnate of Richard the Fearlesss.
Further, my Smith group is 12/12 yDNA matched to the male line of Hervey Walteri via a descendant of a Butler population, descendant of the Earls of Carrick. I have been given explicit written permission to include mention of this family in my research by the family of my group's yDNA match. By the accounts of credible researchers, this Butler line is descended from Richard the Fearless.
Please feel free to examine my findings. I have done my best to document sources where I can. Much of this research is my own, and will only be found among my pages. That said, as long as you have access to the same primary source material I have, you should have no trouble peer-reviewing my findings.
I believe I have successfully biangulated the yDNA of Rollo.
