George Chatterley married Ann Sheldon (1783-1855 at St Phillip's Church, Birmingham, England on 14 Dec 1798. Their children were Mary Ann (1800-1804), Jane (1802-54), Elizabeth (1804-1875), Joseph (1806), Thpmas (1808), John (1809-15), George (1811), Ann (1812), Ellen (1816) and Charlotte (1817).
On 2 Aug 1817 George was convicted at Warwick Assizes of possessing forged banknotes and sentenced to transportation for 14 years. By 11 Sep he was imprisoned on the hulk Laurel at Portsmouth. He left for Australia on 22 Dec 1817 aboard the Lady Castkereagh, arriving in Sydney on 30 Apr 1818. From there he was sent to Van Diemens Land (Tasmania), arriving at Hobart on 22 Jun 1818. He died there on 18 Sep 1822 and was buried two days later.
His daughter Elizabeth married James Townsend (1800-45, making me his third great grandson.
