I often search a surname in my region and try to merge the duplicates I find with that surname.
Sometimes I come over unconnected trees which means I can not complete the merges.
Next time I go through the same surname the duplicates I have already requested still show up as 2 duplicates and makes me waste time on profiles I can not do anything about.
I have almost 300 requested merges that has not gone through.
I have tried the report button sometimes, but it does not seem to do anything, just report that no replacement manager could be found.

If it is geni's policy to support private trees there should at least be a way to only search the world tree and filter away disconnected trees or let you ignore a tree until it is part of the world tree.
Although I think geni's policy should be to encourage one world tree.

Who can complete a merge between two disconnected trees?
What is the proper way to report such pending merges that has been waiting for a long time?

Correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds to me as if your problem is with Abandoned trees more than just unconnected trees. An unconnected tree can still be a very very large tree so detaching it from searches would probably not be feasible or desirable however small detached trees managed by people who have left Geni can be most irritating I concede. I have been trying to merge a swathe of my own tree and waited till the a year was up to report the other person's tree as abandoned hoping I would then get managership but someone else, also not active was obviously more closely related and so became the adopted manager so I will have to wait yet longer and just hope that there is not someone else waiting in the wings to take over management that is also inactive!

Yes I guess I am talking of abandoned trees, but also more in general how do get two unconnected trees merged.
The standard way I guess is to request a merge and when one person from each tree accepts then the trees get merged.
When the managers are active and this happens within a week everything is fine.

When there goes some time there may be many requested merges between 2 trees, once one of these merges are approved we no longer need two people to confirm the merge, but geni does not tell us which of our requested merges we can now complete without consent from the other manager.

How does this 1 year period work, any manager who dos not log on for 1 year is considered to have abandoned their tree, so who decides which manager will get the right of those profiles?

This profile for instance:
Jakob Monsson Olsnes
Is a direct ancestor of mine, I have requested a merge over a year ago.
What is the way to get managership over this profile?

2 other people have also requested that merge so it is possible that if the manager's reported as abandoned the tree it may not go to you.... it will go to their closest relative.

and if there is no close relative nothing happens?

Is this the profile you are talking about?
Jakob Monsson Olsnes
If it is there are several 'managers' of this profile but your name is not on the list. I suggest you request managership. To do so go to the profile and go to the top right corner and click on 'Actions' where a drop down menu will appear. Click on the second option 'Manager Options'.

I hope this helps.
