Does anyone have any information about a Carl Ingman b 1824 Finland who was a sailor. He married a Mary Murphy in 1856 under the name of Carl Richard Francis in Liverpool, England, leading us to believe he may have been married before. He uses the name Carl Engman on the ship list of the Braganza in the 1861 Liverpool census. He lived in Jersey City, New Jersey from 1866-69, moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1870 where he died as the result of a fire in August, 1873. His death certificate lists him as Charles Francis Augustus Engman. Family lore has it that he spoke Swedish and grew up in a parish or town called Kurkijoki on a very large lake (Ladoga?).
He said his father was a customs official on his 1856 marriage certificate.

Hi i was wondering if they had some connection? "Hi,I have heard a story that my great grandfather Karl Oskar Engman (born 1870) was a sailor in Ireland(could be in England too).He sailed to Sweden and found a wife whose name was(born 1876) Edit Maria. They move to Finland where my grandfather was born in 1904.I`m looking any information from Karl Oskar or Edit Maria"

I believe the Geni information is from me. Our Carl was in Milwaukee in 1870 and died there in 1873. I have hired a Finnish researcher to look into our Carl born about 1824 and if she finds a connection, I will let you know. Our family story says our Carl spoke Swedish which may have been most people in 1824. We are beginning to think he took the name Engman because there are many Swedish sailors and ships captains name Engman. In Finland we have found the name in the Kuopio, Vaasa, Helsinki and Paarinen areas. Good luck to both our searches.
