Please add me to SmartCopy. I used to be allowed, but I think I've been bounced off. Thanks, Mark Melmed

Mark Harold Melmed, you still have SmartCopy rights, but based on your immediate family, I'm questioning if it's a good idea. If you're immediate family is in such bad shape (consistency errors fill half the page, such as siblings younger than your parents), then how close are you paying attention to other facts you're copying into Geni.

Hi Jeffrey,

I am aware of what you speak. That was just a temporary holding situation which I will correct.

Thanks,
Mark

And yes, I figured out how to get back back to my Smart Copy page. Thanks again.

Ok, good :) It's actually a good place for me to test the new consistency checking feature. I just made an update to SmartCopy based on looking at your tree. haha

Once again, thankyou for this useful tool. Some suggestions on how to improve its reliability:

Someone complained over my SmartCopy edits that adds dubious My Heritage citiations to the profiles as if MyHeritage trees were authoritative sources.

I suggest that smartcopy writes "Tertiary reference: ... " instead of "Reference: ..." for My Heritage and other family trees on the web. "Primary source" can be used for all record matches. "Secondary source" should not be used by SmartCopy, but can be added manually, for example when citing an academic paper or a book written by some scientist or other authority, analyzing and interpreting the first hand sources. People should be encouraged to use secondary sources - those are the most reliable ones when we talk about historical documents that are are to interpret.

Also, it would be good if SmartCopy helped me to copy the primary and secondary citations of the original article.

Finally, it would be good if the name of the My Heritage site or responsible person was named in the citation. Now the reader has to click on the link and maybe login to see the name.

Good thoughts, Magnus.

re: finding the 'source' of the update:

If one is looking for a person to contact from the site where the data were copied from, then, yes, the link needs to clicked to go find the details. However, sometimes just hovering over the link and seeing the name of the site will tell you enough to make your own judgement about where the data came from.

re: Adding 'citations' found on the 'original-page-copied-from':

Unfortunately, the Geni API (programming interface used by SmartCopy) does not currently support adding documents or links for use on the Geni "Sources" tab. That is, there is no "automated upload" other than the manually initiated processes which currently Geni provides for uploading documents (which can then be used to 'cite' values on the Sources tab).

re: changing the text of the link based on the 'original-page-copied-from':

That, I my view, is not so simple. Some personal trees (on non-Geni sites) are extremely well-documented; others are pure conjecture or "wishful thinking". The word "Reference" was chosen because that's all the link is: it "refers to" where that update came from without making any judgement or assessment as to the genealogical quality of that page.

I'd like to have SmartCopy permissions. Thanks!
