My Great Grandfather.
We are the same DNA

1/18/2016 at 7:11 PM

Dennis,
I know that Geni claims that Henry II "Curtmantle", king of England - King Henry II is my 23rd great grandfather but I do not assume that I have his DNA. I need to see scientific proof and I need to hear comment from others whether a claim without DNA proof that "we are the same DNA" might be an illusion. Dennis I invite you to join the project "Geni as Illusion?" and express your opinions about what you accept as proof in one of the discussions there. See http://www.geni.com/projects/Geni-as-Illusion/30589

You and King Henry II have the same DNA? or you have the same
DNA as I do?

Henry II hasn't had *his* Y-DNA tested, and considering the anomalous Beaufort/Somerset results, we don't know for certain what it was.

I am not sure how much of him is left to DNA. I remember reading somewhere that his grave was disturbed, not once but twice. The last time during events around the French Rev. The prisoners when they excaped dug him up and threw his bones all over the place and they only had a few pieces of him left.

Why spend the money on a DNA if you can follow the paper trail.

And all of John of Gaunt got burned up in the Great Fire of 1666. It's a bit depressing how few royal remains are available for testing - questions like permission of the current authorities aside.

If remains were found I'm sure it would be worth testing given the uncertainty of much of the paper trail.

Henry II is my 22nd great grandfather. This is a "coincidental" relationship, that is of mixed genders, not father to son to son to son.

Be sure to see the movie, Lion in Winter. It's an old movie that portrays Henry II. It can be downloaded from the internet.

I have seen two versions of it. I liked the one with Katherine Hepburn the best. I think Peter O Tool might have been Henry.

He's my 22th Great Grandfather, via one of lines to him, too

He is my 27th great grandfather, through the royal households of Castile and Portugal. "Lion in Winter" rocks!
