What sources tell us Guillaume died young? "circa 1695 (7-23) Stellenbosch, Cape of Good Hope (Died young)"
http://huguenots-france.org/france/refuge/afrique_sud/embarques.htm has him marrying Catharina van der Zande on 27/03/1712.

Sharon, the record that I have reads that a Gysbert le Febre from Overschie Netherlands, married Catharine van der Sande an they had 16 children

Linda Magdalena Engelbrecht, can you find that record? Gysbert doesn't sound particularly French - maybe a transliteration of Guillaume? Then your record might be the reason people figured Guillaume died.

Hang on, I found it in Oude Kaapsche Familien

826— van de SANDE.
(b) 1 Catharina, gehuwd met Gijsbert le Febre
2 Nicolaas, gedoopt 5 Juli 1716

Okay, so we still don't have sources for why this profile was recorded as dying young.

Looks like Ou Kaapse Families opened new doors ;-)

:-) I think Ou Kaapse is the cause of the problem in this case :-)

I'm looking at another site at the moment, there it shows 2 Guilliaums one died age 4. Looking for sources. They are numbered 1 and 2 on that site.

and Gijsbert as the child of Guillaume

Guillaume le Febré B: ABT 1680 in Fleurbaix, Artois, France D: ABT 1684 in Cape, South Africa
and the other born 1682. Can't find any sources though.

Ja, the Sources seem to be the problem in this area.
There's something for Gysbert in this one:
Gysbert le Febre but I keep losing connectivity down here at the coast, so I'll have to come back to it later, unless one of you can see it.

... also seems to be more than one Gysbert if you look at the names of the mothers.

Maybe somebody with a subscription to this site can help:

Thanks Charmaine, you're a star! I wonder if we'll ever be able to find out if he changed his name? Delia Robertson, do you have an opinion on this?

The muster/tax rolls for the Cape/Stellenbosch shows Pierre le Febre and Maria de Grave with no children in 1684, 1 daughter in 1685 and eventually with up to 3 daughters. Once the daughters got married, they are listed without children (last record in 1707.

If Guillaume did exist he must have passed away before this first record at the Cape occurs.

Gijsbert le Feber is the individual who married Catharina van der Sande.

He arrived at the Cape as a soldier in 1709 from Overshie. His soldyboek can be found here:

Please call me back here over the weekend.
