Can someoine with knowlegde in the von Schwalenberg (von Itter) tree in the early 1100's check out this suggested merge. There are some family relationships that need to be fixed before the merge can be completed, but my knowledge in the area isn't good enough.

Patricia Ann Scoggin and Joseph James Yanta, III
I have found that it also seems like the relationship changes depending on from which side you get to that profile. Someone will show up as a spouse of a great+ grandparent.. or great+ uncle/aunt.. but then if I go to their parent and then step down, they are then my great+ grandparent.

Or say if I search by name for a direct ancestor, and I go directly to their profile, they might not show as a grandparent.. but if I click on their parents, and they show as a grandparent, and then I click back on them, they now show as the direct ancestor they are supposed to be. Sometimes I have to click on the spouse, get the direct link, then click back, and GENI then recalculates the relationship based on what recent other profiles I have been in.

I find that how GENI links certain profiles together varies.. for example if you unlink a spouse, certain children go with the unlinked spouse, and get unlinked from the remaining spouse, even though before hand, both spouse profiles showed as parents. One would expect that after unlinking, the kids would show only either a father or a mother,, depending on which was unlinked, instead of just some of the kids but not all go with the unlinked spouse.

That might be why going to a profile from a different way changes how GENI sees the connection.

Thanks cousin!!!

Geni has also generated different paths to a profile for me, although that seems to happen much less now that Geni shows both the “closest” blood relationship and in-law relationship.

It would be interesting if Geni could show more than those relationships, without making us go down the line to other profiles - perhaps the three closest blood relationships, for example. Showing more relationships probably would not be feasible, I realize. But maybe someday.
