Hi, I got interested in the whole DNA testing as I reached a dead end when studying my paternal line. The oldest person in this branch lived in Ingå/Inkoo Finland during 1700s and I can't find his parents. This is an area dominated by Swedish-speaking people and I was playing around with the possibility if he actually immigrated from Sweden somewhere around mid 1700s. Now, the Y-DNA results are painting a slightly different scenario. I don't have any direct matches in FTDNA -- and the closest are very distant and a bit questionable. Any ideas where to go next?

My earliest known ancestor is from Lumijoki/Siikajoki. I too am wondering about the origins and information of this haplogroup. Since my brother has some matches with Forest Finns, I wonder if there is something to that.

I was able to update my results -- I'm now N-CTS1737 but that information hasn't helped me to find any close relatives either.

This is a bit confusing, because my mother´s father has this haplo group I-Z166, and his direct ancestors are in Kolari a son and a father named Thomas Simu. Now there is a Tomas Simu in this group and his haplo group is N-group, I wonder if he really isn´t direct descendant of those Simus in Kolari, even he has the same name.

Min tttoldefar f. ca.1737 d 1785 hadde også N-Z1925.Han levde i Skjervøy kommune, Troms, Norge Men dette er en slekt som kommer fra sødre delen av Finland / og over på russisk side

My father has this Y-DNA haplogroup. His paternal line comes from Petalax (Petolahti) in western Ostrobothnia, a Swedish-speaking municipality. They lived there at least from the beginning of the 1700´s, as fara as can be traced from the church books.
