I found in the 1871 England, Wales & Scotland Census (in Latimer Street, Liverpool) the following:

Alexander Corry Head Married 33 Mariner Scotland Edinburgh
Elizabeth Corry Wife Married 30 --- Ireland, co. Moneghan
Joseph Corry Son Unmarried 9 Scholar Ireland, co. Moneghan
James Corry Son --- 4 Scholar Ireland, co. Moneghan

The year of birth is correct 1863/1864. The place of origin is correct i.e. Ireland. The mother's name is reflected in the name of Joseph Johannes Corrie's daughter. The father's name however is not reflected in any of Joseph's descendants or their descendants.

Joseph Johannes Corrie married Clarissa Gertruida Viljoen in 1886 i.e. if the family left Liverpool in 1871 it would leave 13-15 years for Joseph Johannes Corrie to make his way to the Free State.

Hello Private User
Did you find any more leads on this?
My husband is Leon de Lange, son of Patricia Denise, who’s mom was Clareesa Getruida ( born 29 Dec 1919) who was the daughter of Josef Johannes born in 1888.
We noticed that Clareesa had a British passport and could never figure out why as her death certificate said born in South Africa.
I did find a birth registration for her dad Joseph in some Irish records but no image attached. The month and birth year matched so I wonder if his dad registered his birth in Ireland somehow?
Please if you have any more info it would be great to hear from you.

Kind regards
Dominique de Lange

Hi Dominique, so pleased to hear from you.

I have Patricia Denise as "Patsy van der Merwe". Would love to connect with your side of the family and work on updating the information I have (which is essentially word of mouth).

As far as Irish names go, Joseph Corrie is quite common. Patsy's father Joseph was definitely born in Kroonstad, OFS. His baptism here:
1. FamilySearch/LDS: https://media.geni.com/p13/13/bd/eb/e6/5344484774f5947a/record-imag...
2. Hannes Saaiman/Ned. Gereformeerde Kerk: https://media.geni.com/p13/57/73/0a/51/53444840eeb5b793/corriejjbap...

As far as Oupa Corrie i.e. Patsy's grandfather is concerned, it's still a bit of a mystery. Have determined that he was definitely born in South Africa 1863, most likely Grahamstown. His DNA is pointing toward a Manx (Isle of Man) origin, with possible earlier Irish roots. I have an even better candidate now than the one mentioned in this discussion. That discussion here: https://www.geni.com/discussions/211071

Kindest Regards,
Drummond
