I have disconnected Michiel Paulus Vandervoort from his parents Paul Michael Vandervoort and “wives” (two of the wives have men’s names and the other is an Unknown) because as far as I can determine there is absolutely no evidence that Paul Michael Vandervoort ever existed. The idea of him is based on two assumptions:
A) That the father of Michael was a man named Paul because Michael’s patronym was “Pauluszn”. While 99% reliable patronym’s are not proof of a father’s name as there can be skips and double names.
B) The supposition that Michael was born with the name Vandervoort [sp] and that his father therefore would have had the same name. Given that Michael doesn’t start using the name vdV until the 1650s this assumption is pure conjecture.
There are many web trees citing this man as Michael’s father but none offer any proof, if anyone has anything at all please share either in this discussion or via messaging. The relationship is easily restored but for the time being I have locked the profiles to stop inadvertent reconnection through merging.
