Find a grave is updating its site and in the process using a new format for the url to each grave.

Smart copy places the URL into a link in the about tab when copying data from find-a-grave to Geni. and before I used
smart copy, I used to copy and insert the link on the death or burial tab

old url: https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=XXXXXXXX
or https://old.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=XXXXXXXX
or https://old.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=abcd&amp...;

The new url: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/xxxxxxxx

Any chance for a maintenance feature being added to smart copy to find the find-a-grave URL and similar to the change case option for a name, to one click and change the URL to the new format?

I'd hope that FindAGrave would still support all the old links and auto-redirect them.

It does not support the original ones now. They put "old" on the links to allow users to use their old format for a limited time but the links used and placed on Geni over the years no longer work.

I would complain to FindAGrave. It would be super easy for them to redirect the old links. Their site is used as a reference point for Genealogists. They're doing themselves a disservice by killing all the current links that people use to reference information.

Actually, I just tested an old link and it redirected just fine.

So far, I only found one that worked. Here is an example that doesn't.

Playing over the last several days, both on Geni and on Wikitree I've found the re-directs to be erratic. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

And sometimes even Wikitree's internal links haven't worked. There have been times I've been at a screen with the new format and the links to relatives don't work, but if I switch back to the old format, the link does work -- and it goes to the new format.

I've had the same experience.

I would be nice to have a change to smartcopy to recognize the URL address and have an option to change it to the new format. as many of us review trees, we could click and modify the URL.

I agree with Jeff's earlier comment:

This is a FindAGrave issue and persistent complaints should be made to them about re-directs of old URL's not getting to the new location. They should be able to handle that. It's not a SmartCopy problem.

I've sent FindAGrave feedback on Jim's url that doesn't work. They're not seeing "&" as "&".
