It seems widely agreed that the wife of Francis Bushnell Knapp was a Deborah Taylor, daughter of Daniel.
As far as Daniel, not so much agreement. I see published sources that name Daniel's wife as Elizabeth, daughter of James Benedict / Sarah Gregory [Benedict; repeated in History of Danbury and more] or else Mary Benedict, daughter of John Benedict and Phebe Gregory [Nicholas Knapp Gen.].
Here at Geni currently I see Daniel marked up with 2 spouses, a Mary Benedict supposedly daughter of said James and Sarah, and an Elizabeth (Broughton). The former it seems is very probably or almost certainly incorrect; in the 1755 "James Benedict Manuscript" (transcribed in Benedicts in America, pp. 2-3) Deacon James Benedict, himself a child of John and Phebe, listed all the children of that generation and the list includes a sister Mary and no cousin Mary daughter of James. (To me it seems that the only wiggle room short of "certainly incorrect" is that the document was copied, and the transcript made from a copy, and then typeset; I do not know where any original may be located now.)
The switch here from Elizabeth Benedict to Elizabeth Broughton seems to have been made rather recently and based on AGBI data? Which looks like it is generally drawn from weak "sources" including Ancestry family trees.
Because the couple(s), however joined, lived in the vast gap of burned and lost Danbury records, I have yet to find anything that looks like an actual source for identification. A Will that appears to be taken for this Daniel's is in Danubury probate 3:100, it was signed 1761 but not recorded until 1770 (witnesses Deacon Daniel Benedict and Rev Joseph Peck). Heirs son Nathaniel, daughter Rachel Starr, two grandchildren Hannah Cornwell? and Mercy Benedict, son Daniel (also ex.), no others.
Can anyone say the basis for naming this Daniel's spouse(s) and mother of Deborah?
[PS I'm new here, and only starting to understand how this enterprise works, and how well.]
