I don’t believe this Walter Adair had a middle name. He was always known as ‘Black Wat’ to distinguish him from his cousin of the same name. Also, I don’t think his actual death date is known. He died shortly before the census of 1835.

The article fails to mention that the reason the Indians ‘left’ is because they were forced out by white settlers with the support of the Georgia government.

Walter Adair, called "Black Watt' to distinguish him from his cousin, Walter Scott Adair, who was called "Red Watt' was born December 11, 17S3, married May 13, 1804 Rachel Thompson, born December 24, 1786. He died January 20, 183 5 and she died April 22, 1876. They were the parents ■>. Nancy Adair, born October 7, 1S08, mar ried January 22, 1824, Samuel Mayes, born November 11, 1803 in Tennessee. He died December 3 0, 185 8 and she died March 18, 1876. They were the parents of Wiley B. Mayes.

I’m not sure where that genealogy list came from, but it has a lot of errors. This is my family. John and Edward Adair were white. John married Nancy/Gahoga Foster, a Cherokee woman. Some claim that she was the daughter of a white man named Lightfoot and a Cherokee woman; Starr says she was a fullblood of the Deer clan. They had five children, Nancy died and John married a white woman, Jennie Kilgore. Jennie raided all the children. She and John had several white children, three of whom married Cherokee. The Cherokee children were Samuel, who married two white women, Margaret Deeson and Edith Pounds. Walter “Black Wat” married a white woman, Rachel Thompson in 1804. Three of her siblings also married Cherokee. Walter died in January, 1835. Charlotte married John Bell, a white man. Edward also married two white women, Martha Ritchie and Rebecca. Son John died with no known descendants.
Edward Adair married a mixed-blood Cherokee woman (possibly two) and had three children, Walter ‘Red Wat’, Edward, and possibly James. Walter married another mixed-blood, Edward married a white woman and a mixed-blood Cherokee.
