So, I can add a direct ancestor who is not in the DAR database, but for whom I found his pension document, into the American Revolutionary War project? He also has the same first and last name as a well-known Patriot from Massachusetts, but he was just a common man from Virginia. That has caused some confusion.
Private User Yes, the point of the project https://www.geni.com/projects/American-Revolutionary-War-soldiers/272 is exactly soldiers in the war as shown by pension files or other documentation, but who may not be in the DAR or SAR database.
Conversely, DAR captures “patriotic service” as well as military service. So there will never be perfect overlap.
I found this person findagrave has him listed as military and some of the My Heritage sites has him listed as military. The time period is American Revolutionary War. I added marriage and Lieut. but can’t find much on him. I interested in possible son Jonathan but since not finding much wasn’t going to add him. I like to see if someone can look him up in American Revolutionary War veterans see if can find Jonathan son and see if he was soldier as stated in Findagrave. They from Massachusetts it looks like.
Billie
Billie June Keaffaber He’s the wrong age to have been in the Rev War - he died in 1759, it didn’t start until 1776. The military title is legitimate, it’s on his death record, but I don’t yet see what the service was; probably local militia. Possibly French & Indian War but he’s really the wrong age for that too (1754 - 1758, I would expect a younger man).
I didn't know where to post this but thought researchers might be interested in these numbers:
