Hi - Please have a look at Benoni Sharp .

A GEDCOM import seems to have once again made him a child of John Sharp and Elizabeth Sharp (Paine). This, of course, conflicts with a different William Sharp born the same year who married different people and had a different family. Which Sharp Paine is which? And if they truly have different parents, then who are they?

Erica Howton thank you

I started cleaning up William Benoni Sharp, with the idea that many of his children were actually misidentified children of the other William - but found myself blocked by a child that had two locked parents:

Hannah Haines

The parents are not incompatible, so just unlocking and merging and relocking should do it.

And back to William Benoni Sharp: Benoni Sharp . With the cleanup, he has very few Sharp children now, but four Allen children. These were all from a GEDCOM import on Nov 22, by the way. I am thinking that "Rebecca Allen" may therefore have been "widow Allen" when Benoni married her. I wish these imports came with instructions; the Allens are of interest to me because of DNA matches. Thoughts?

Okay, the Allens seem to have been operator error; it seems that the profile creator had meant to create them a level above in the Allen tree. I've merged them appropriately now.

This means that William Benoni Sharp and Rebecca Allen seem to have only two children, one of which has no dates. So I'm not sure he's in fact any different from William the son of John Sharp and Elizabeth Sharp (Paine). Thoughts?

(Hannah Haines above still needs a fix, BTW - thanks)

The Williams are definitely different. However I note that "William Benoni Sharp" may in fact be a portmanteau of "William Sharp" and "Benoni Sharp" - that is, Benoni came from the same family as William but are, in fact, different people. That sounds like an error that might be plausible if you have two brothers with close birth dates. Erica Howton, this, and resolving Hannah Haines, is going to need your skills I fear. Specifically we'd need to see the marriage record and the gravestone to see if this is a plausible interpretation.

FWIW, this is the William Sharp that may be a brother of Benoni: William Sharp

Hannah Haines Is fixed, it had a “ghost” parent.

William Sharp III was born on 8 June 1695 in Woodbridge, Middlesex, New Jersey, the son of William Sharp II.

An ancestry tree lists three wives:

1) Mary Austen, with a marriage of 9 Jul 1716 in Camden, New Jersey
2) Rebecca Allen (1705-1781), with a marriage of 12 May 1722 in Shrewsbury, Monmouth, New Jersey
3) Sarah Langstaff, with a marriage of 1736 in Woodbridge, Middlesex, New Jersey.

The tree lists children by both 2 and 3rd wife. Citing Quaker Records, a Will Abstract from 3 April 1749 in Woodbridge New Jersey names wife Sarah, sons John, Henry, William, Samuel, Langstaff and Jonathan. The last five underage. Daughter Mary Sharp a minor....proved 22 May 1749. Lib E page 298, inventory 10 May 1749 incl a sword, a gun and a "pleasure slay."

Sarah Morris - see http://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/morris/18979/

She’s the daughter of Benoni Sharp & unknown.

Gedcom ar https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sharp-2689 has Susanna as daughter of William Sharp (d 1759) & Hannah Austin.

Haines, G., & Haines, R. (1902). Ancestry of the Haines, Sharp, Collins, Wills, Gardiner, Prickitt, Eves, Evans, Moore, Troth, Borton and Engle families. Camden, N.J: S. Chew & Sons Co. p.211

https://books.google.com/books?id=5KpRAAAAMAAJ&dq=%22hugh%20sharp%2...

Shows that Sarah Sharp married Barzillia Prickitt.

No Benoni Sharp in that book.

Sharp Bible page https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/Sharp-33

Fixed:

Benoni Sharp (Son of Unknown Sharp & Deborah House)

Husband of wife of Benoni Sharp

Father of Sarah Morris who married 1) Job Thorp 2) William Spencer, of Wantage 3) Samuel Morris, of Wantage

The current vitals for Sarah Sharp are suspicious so I’ll look more for those

Birth: April 07, 1733
Woodbridge, Middlesex, New Jersey, British North America
Death: after November 15, 1779
Wantage, Sussex County, New Jersey, United States

And I’ll try to change the erroneous confirmed smart matches on Benoni,

Thanks - and nevermind about Rebecca Allen - it's a different Rebecca Allen: https://www.ancestry.com/discoveryui-content/view/4549604632:62476

The William Benoni Sharp profile definitely was screaming "merge problem" although it was mastered. Thanks for straightening that out. One forgets there were Sharps in New England and northern NJ too.

Capt. John Doggett, Esq.

I think he's a combination of 2 or 3 people. I'm kind of deciphering it as I type.

I think he's had issues since the 2010 update. He currently has a birth year of 1724, but it used to be 1753.

Looking on Ancestry, I couldn't find anything when I put in his current year of birth and death (1724-1772). The Find a Grave photo is for John 1753-1837, spouse of Sarah Hawkins. They married in 1774. - https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/6048275/john-daggett?_gl=1*1vlw....

Connecticut, U.S., Town Birth Records, pre-1870 (Barbour Collection)
Name John Daggett
[John Dagget]
Gender Male
Birth Date 11 Sep 1754
Birth Place Lebanon, Connecticut, USA
Parent 1 John Jr
Parent 2 Sarah

Here is a DAR record - he was married 3 times, so at least 3 of the 4 wives are correct. https://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search_adb/?action=ful...

Private User - I ran a Google search on John Daggett & Abigail House and found a few matches - one in Wikipedia for John Daggett which had a link to a Daggett-Doggett genealogy and another in WikiTree which agrees to what is in Geni for Capt. John Doggett, Esq.

The Daggett-Doggett genealogy has confused two different men named John Doggett who lived in the area near Scituate, Mass. One was born in 1730; the other in 1723/4. Given the date of marriage intentions (Sept. 24, 1748), it is more likely that John 1723/4 is the husband of Abigail House.

I have posted my findings to Capt. John Doggett, Esq.

Emily Kent Marget & Private User

I copy / pasted the Wikitree biography.

Looking at merge conflicts, the glaring one is from this merge:

John Daggett was merged into John Daggett by Brion Alexander Daggett.

So i will undo that one.

Erica Howton - From the Daggett-Doggett genealogy where it discusses the life of John & Abigail Daggett in Nova Scotia, John 1723/4 appears to only have married Abigail. (https://archive.org/details/historyofdoggett00indogg/page/394/mode/...)

The other two ladies are managed by Brion Daggett and belong to a different John Daggett.

Do you see the merges that brought the other wives in?

Polly Daggett was manually added by Brion. Nancy Daggett must have been part of the 2012 merge.
Since they have locations in Pennsylvania, I know they don't belong to John 1723/4 or John 1730.

This is the Pennsylvania Daggett but I don’t see a referenced for Smith wives. John Daggett, III Can we look in the Doggett book?

I detached them:

Polly Daggett

Nancy Daggett

Also detached Dorcas Doggett

Erica Howton - We are right behind each other on the Daggett-Doggett line.

Lesson: use the book!

https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000200492346825

It’s only Dorcas still pending.
