It says he was born in Virginia but he would have been born in Ireland. Also in the Overview section it says he immigrated in about 1737, which is years after the listed death date.

The text and the family refer to the John Mathews who is believed to have been born in Ireland about 1705, emigrated to America at an unknown date, and settled near Natural Bridge, Virginia by 1734, moving south about 1737 as one of the first settlers in the Borden Grant. He died in 1757, leaving a will naming 12 children and wife Ann . His parents are unknown.

From the info in his profile, it seems to me that his parentage is unproven:

"An 1869 London publication states that a branch of a prominent Welsh Mathew family settled "in the north-west of Ireland," leading some to suggest that John Mathews of Augusta County, Virginia was a descendant of this family through a Theobald Mathew (d. 1699), whose father George Mathew moved from Radyr, Wales to Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland in 1625.

Others have claimed that John Mathews descended from the same Welsh Mathew family, but through different branches. A great-grandson of John Mathews, James Hervey Otey, claims that Mathews descended from Samuel Mathews (1630–1660), a colonial governor of Virginia,[13] and another sources indicates that John Mathews was the son of British admiral Thomas Mathews. None of these connections have been noted by professional scholars."

Is there documentation validating the parental connections given to him here on Geni?

Thanks in advance for any additional information on how correct the parental connections may or may not be.

My 4th Great Grandfather, Andrew L. Mathews (Abt 1800 - ?) had a child with a Choctaw indian maiden in Rapides/Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana in 1825. His name was John Rafe/Ralph Mathews (1825 - 1879). I've not been able to find any information Andrew Mathews but I have 100's of DNA relatives with Mathews/Matthews/Mathieus that aren't in my family tree. I would love to solve this mystery.
