My interest in Charlie Packard is that my father (Michael Walters) owns the steam wagon that Charlie owned in the 1920s and 1930s. As we understand it, Charlie had worked at Richard Garrett and Sons in the early 1920's as a driver, and then in May 1926 had bought a steam wagon and trailer from Garretts to work as a haulage contractor. We know he worked from Holmwood Brickworks in Dorking, and did some contract work for Hovis (the millers) and then later moved to Longcroft Lane, Welwyn Garden City. His haulage business ended in the 1930's. Much of this information is from correspondence with Bill Packard in the 1980's.
There are some wartime photos online (from the IWM) showing his "factory" (a converted chicken shed) in Welwyn Garden City where Sten Gun parts were produced.

Edward, Charlie was my great-uncle and interested in anything I can obtain and learn about him. He and Edie also owned a pub in Wales at some point, of which I have a photo. My cousin, his granddaughter, are always in contact. Would enjoy hearing from you and some of his history. My cousin doesn't know much either as Charlie died when she was still a wee child. You can contact via email at jeffreycomptonwright@yahoo.com. Hope to hear from you.
