Elizabeth Bailey (Smith) - @ Elizabeth Smith and John Thomas Bailey - marriage

Graeme, I don't think there was a marriage as such of John and Elizabeth. It seems to be accepted that they lived together under comon law marriage. Also, we have chased for years re Elizabeth Smith's heritage. Most of us from John Bailey and Elizabeth Smith with dna results hasn't proven a link to Polynesian blood. Anyone with different results please post via Ancestry dna as that seems to have a wider scope of testing.

Yes, they had 6 kids and it is clear that their relationship was 'accepted' by the community. It seems their were many such relationships between Englishmen and our Indigenous women. I would like to know why she committed suicide, but we may never know.
Searching with DNA - I have had the test done through Ancestry.com - a final 6% is inconclusive. They cannot link any Indigenous Australian DNA because they still do not have a large enough 'sample size' to say anything conclusive. They don't know how long it will take to gather that sample size. I suggest some committment to the project would help ??? However, for me, the line through to Mary Dunkinjung is pretty clean. I have sent a whole stack of data through to NSW Aboriginal Affairs to see if they can make confirmation. I will let you know. Don't know how long they will take.

Dallas Leslie Hanna - just to let you know re Mary Dunkinjung - response from NSW AA was to go to Local Land Council as they had no records from Darkinung community. Darkinung is registered on Land Council records (near Wyong) but I cannot get any response from them. I intended to visit the LC office on our planned trip to Brisbane in June, but that now will not happen. I have not given up!

Maude Mary (Bailey) Clulee is my great grandmother.Her father and mother are Thomas & Elizabeth Bailey. I know my great gran was born in the MacDonald river, hawksberry river area.
