What are the criteria exactly other than what is stated, which i find ambiguous? Exact types of documentation, service pensions?

Youll want to have the lineage documentation, hopefully have the lineage uploaded to the world tree here already, and have the patriot number (SAR patriot # or DAR #) of the person who served. https://sarpatriots.sar.org/patriot/search/
If you cant find them on that search, its gonna be hard to prove to geni that they were legit veterans. I have several that im trying to prove to SAR and then hopefully geni will allow them.

You need an SAR number for the Rev. War vet to show that they have been accepted by the Sons of the American Revolution.

Does SAR accepts Geni world family tree? The last time I check, SAR didn't accept any family tree lineages from Geni and many others. But, I do believe Ancestry was acceptable, because the let you down load most of the documents, citations, documents. I have checked out many SAR Applications that has been processed, and issued cert. #s, and the copies of the apps shows a short version of the app family lineage. So, it seems that all you have to do is verified lineage to your ancestor. I have over 30 GGFs that served in the AR. Most likely, if you have an ancestor going back to the colonies. I'll be you can find at least 20-30 AR ancestors. Its easy. Complete your paternal 5 or 6th generations, and then work on each lineage per generation. Then find those GGFs that was of age to serve during the AR Timeline, research each one that might have served, and make copies.

hey guys thanks for the quick response. Ive discovered about 95% of my ancestors is precolonial and judging from the fact that if you were able bodied you fought in the war, Im thinking i have at least 10. two are verified. ive been trying ti verify some i know were in the war im not sure how. i know you can get pension records but get conflicting info on how to do so.

Kenneth Joseph Bagg Neder, they don't accept on-line family trees or printouts from Ancestry. You need to get certified copies of the original records from the town/county clerks. It's an expensive process and one of the reasons working-class folks are so underrepresented in SAR/DAR.

Actually, I take that back! Apparently SAR has changed that rule, and now you only need certified copies for yourself and your parents. That's good to see.

Thank you Ashley. I stand corrected. I meant that you can collect the confirmed doc's and control numbers on such documents that is available on some genealogy sites, then introduce these documents that is confirmed along with your family lineage to either SAR or DAR for verification according to their library.

Yep, apparently SAR let you do that now. The previous rule was that scanned documents found on-line weren't acceptable, and you had to send away for actual certified copies of documents from town clerks.

I had debated joining DAR for a while, and part of what deterred me was the fact that I'd have to spend several hundred on certified copies. I guess now it would only be a *couple* hundred for me. ;)

You'll have to let us know if you join!

Thank you Ashley

When i first started doing this I thought only 2 great-grandfathers fought in the war. I thought it was going to be hard enough to find info on just them. Its seems a few are documented by the DAR, which i always saw as an exclusive rich only club. I don't know where to go find documentation other than pension records they might not have received. I emailed both DAR and SAR but received no reply. The only place i received any type of help from was The American Revolutionary War Museum in Yorktown.
